Cellar Gems and Fails #10

20 bottles of Sangiovese and Nebbiolo from vintages spanning 2001-2013. So, drink or hold, gem or fail? Read on.

I had a lot of fun raiding our cellar last month. With the excuse of the holidays, and because we are running out of room, I pulled twenty bottles over the course of December from vintages spanning 2001-2013.

I focused on Rosso and Brunello di Montalcino and on Nebbiolo – mostly Barolo and Barbaresco but also one lovely Gattinara.

As always, I opened the wines a couple hours earlier before tasting them and did not decant as I want to witness the entire evolution.

Happily, all but two of the wines proved to be gems.

Enjoy!
